The Power of a Name
Your name was the first prophecy ever spoken over your life.
Do you know what it says?
“Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in Your book before one of them came to be.”Psalm 139 : 16
Your name isn’t a label — it’s a love letter. A word spoken over you before you took your first breath, repeated every single day of your life.
Scripture reveals a pattern: names are never random. They are prophetic. Every time someone speaks your name, they are declaring something over you — most people just never stop to ask what.
Sometimes God renames. Sometimes He names
before birth. Either way — the name comes first.
Abraham
“father of nations”
He was ninety-nine and childless when God renamed him. The name arrived before the son did.
Israel
“wrestles with God”
He fought through the night and left with a limp and a legacy. The struggle itself became his name.
Peter
“the rock”
Jesus named him for a steadiness he did not have yet. The name was the prophecy — the man caught up to it.
Jesus
“the LORD saves”
The angel spoke it before Mary ever held Him: “You shall call His name Jesus, for He shall save His people.” The name was the mission — announced from Heaven, fulfilled on earth.
